Hogs Haven reported that Washington Commanders head coach Dan Quinn and general manager Adam Peters used a pre-training camp news conference in Ashburn, Virginia, to outline their early view of the roster as full-squad work begins for the 2026 season. The report, published July 29, said both leaders described strong energy around the team after a difficult prior season and pointed to new coordinators, offseason additions and quarterback Jayden Daniels’ health as reasons for optimism.

On offense, Peters said Washington remains pleased with its wide receiver room after adding third-round pick Antonio Williams and bringing back Dyami Brown, though he left open the possibility of further moves if they improve the roster. He also emphasized that player evaluations include locker-room fit and culture, not only on-field tape. Quinn, meanwhile, praised Daniels’ approach after an injury-hit 2025 campaign in which the quarterback missed significant time, saying the staff has seen urgency from him while learning David Blough’s offense.

The tight end position was another focus. Peters highlighted free-agent addition Chig Okonkwo, formerly of Tennessee, as a versatile receiving option who can create more flexibility in formations, including two-tight-end packages. The report also said Quinn expressed confidence in Nick Allegretti’s ability to handle center duties despite much of his NFL experience coming at guard, citing his intelligence and command of protections.

Defensively, Peters framed the signing of veteran cornerback Rasul Douglas as an effort to strengthen an already trusted group rather than fix a weakness. Quinn said the cornerback competition, including decisions on inside and outside roles, could take several weeks to sort out during camp.
