Five Teachers Arrested in Mityana Over Holiday Teaching

Five teachers have been arrested in Mityana District after security officials found pupils and students attending holiday lessons at private schools, despite a government directive banning teaching during the school break. According to Nile Post, the operation was led by Mityana Deputy Resident District Commissioner Prossy Mwanjuzi and focused on schools suspected of continuing classes during the holiday period.

The first stop was Glorius Junior School in Mityana town, where authorities said more than 200 learners were found in class. Officials reported that the school had gathered students from different areas and from both primary and secondary levels. Mwanjuzi ordered the learners out of classrooms and called in more police to help separate students from teachers. Younger children were sent home, while some older students and several teachers were taken to the police station.

The crackdown then moved to Bright Grammar Junior School, where officials again found students in lessons. Teachers there allegedly fled when security officers arrived. Mwanjuzi said the district would continue inspecting schools and warned that anyone violating the holiday-teaching directive could be arrested and prosecuted.

District spokesperson Godfrey Mayengo also cautioned school owners that repeated breaches could jeopardize their licences. The article says authorities want local leaders, parents and security teams to help monitor compliance as the district extends checks to more schools.
