Fox News Digital reported that Maria Kang, the California fitness influencer once known online as the “No Excuses Mom,” says a stage 4 colon cancer diagnosis in November 2023 changed how she defines health. Kang, 46, built a public profile around exercise, nutrition and wellness after a 2013 viral photo with her three sons drew attention to fitness and motherhood.

In the Fox interview, Kang said the diagnosis was unexpected because she had long believed healthy eating, filtered water and regular workouts would help protect her. She described years of digestive problems, including constipation and bloating, that she had come to view as normal. After a colonoscopy and biopsy found a tumor, she said she first tried holistic approaches for 12 weeks before beginning FOLFOX chemotherapy in 2024.

Kang told Fox that she later underwent major surgery to remove the tumor, about a foot of colon, several reproductive organs and her appendix, and temporarily needed ostomy procedures. She said recent MRI results have not shown a suspicious mass, though she has not been formally declared to have no evidence of disease and continues blood tests and scans every six months.

The report places Kang’s case in the context of rising colorectal cancer rates among younger adults. Fox cited American Cancer Society figures estimating 158,850 U.S. colorectal cancer diagnoses in 2026 and noted screening guidance generally begins at age 45 for average-risk adults. Kang said her experience has shifted her focus from appearance and strict routines toward listening to symptoms, balance and medical evaluation when problems persist.
