First look: Per-app zoom controls on Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 - Android Authority

What the report says
Android Authority reports that Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 8 includes a new per-app zoom control, currently tucked inside the phone’s Labs menu. The feature was previously hinted at in firmware strings found for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, but the outlet said it could not initially access the setting on that device. A tipster later pointed Android Authority to the option on the standard Galaxy Z Fold 8 under Settings, Advanced features, and Labs.
According to the report, the tool lets users choose from five zoom levels on an app-by-app basis, rather than applying one screen zoom setting across the entire phone. Android Authority said the feature appears to work differently depending on the app: in Chrome, interface elements changed size while webpage content did not visibly scale, while Google Maps showed clearer changes to both interface and map content.
The finding matters because foldable phones often present apps across unusually large or differently shaped displays, and more granular zoom controls could help users improve readability or fit more information on screen depending on the app. Android has long offered broad display scaling, but the report frames Samsung’s implementation as a more targeted approach.
Android Authority cautioned that the setting is not currently visible on the Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra or Galaxy Z Flip 8, and Samsung’s review units are reportedly not running final retail firmware. The outlet noted that retail sales are scheduled to begin on August 7, which may clarify whether the feature remains Fold 8-only, expands to other new foldables, or changes before wider availability.
