Firefox 153 contains itself while Thunderbird 153 fixes almost everything - The Register

The Register reports that Mozilla has released Firefox 153, followed by MZLA’s Thunderbird 153, with both versions serving as Extended Support Releases. Firefox 153 was released Tuesday, according to the report, and is expected to receive security updates until after the next ESR arrives around mid-2027. The update is notable for bringing a preview of Multi-Account Containers directly into the browser, giving users an easier way to keep separate sets of logins and browsing contexts for work, personal and other identities.

The browser release also adds mobile features. Firefox for Android now includes tab groups, while users of Firefox for iOS in the United States get a Quick Answers feature. The Register notes that speech recognition for that feature is handled on the device, though the resulting question is sent online to produce an answer. The outlet also says Firefox 115 continues to receive updates for older platforms including Windows 7 through 8.1 and macOS 10.12 through 10.14.

Thunderbird 153, codenamed “Meadow,” is described as a large maintenance-focused release. The Register says its release notes list 32 refinements, 15 changed items and 181 bug fixes, with improvements touching folder handling, notifications, OpenPGP encryption, OAuth login, address book export and PDF handling. The release also ends 32-bit Linux binaries, renames “Junk” mail as “Spam,” and removes a dedicated setup option for Russia’s Odnoklassniki service, directing users to XMPP configuration instead.

The report adds that Thunderbird 153 includes account-handling changes tied to Thundermail, part of MZLA’s planned paid Thunderbird Pro email service, suggesting the offering is moving closer to launch.
