Housing Finance Bank says Uganda’s plan to grow its economy nearly tenfold by 2040 will depend on the country’s ability to mobilise capital for businesses, housing and infrastructure. The message was delivered at the REDi Mbarara 2026 – Ankole Real Estate & Infrastructure Conference in Mbarara, which was organised by Knight Frank Uganda and brought together investors, developers, policymakers, financial institutions and other industry players.

According to The Independent Uganda, the discussion centred on how finance can turn regional investment opportunities into productive economic activity. Joel Matsiko, Acting Head of Business and Institutional Banking at Housing Finance Bank, said the country’s Tenfold Growth Strategy creates an opportunity for banks and other financiers to support sectors that generate value, including enterprise growth, housing development and infrastructure expansion.

The article says Uganda is targeting economic growth from about $50 billion to $500 billion by 2040, with regions such as Mbarara and the wider Ankole area seen as emerging hubs for commerce, agriculture, real estate and infrastructure. Speakers at the conference also discussed the need for collaboration, adequate financing and stronger infrastructure to make investment sustainable.

The report adds that officials including Joseph Enyimu of the Ministry of Finance and Nelson Tugume of Inspire Africa discussed regional growth financing and investment opportunities in Ntungamo, including plans linked to a proposed “Coffee City.” Housing Finance Bank said its role is to provide financial solutions that help convert opportunities into jobs, incomes and broader economic growth.
