Polygon reports that Final Fantasy 14 players are trying to identify the second new job planned for the MMO’s upcoming Evercold expansion after Square Enix’s recent Fan Fest event in Berlin. The company used the event to announce Bastion, the first of two jobs coming with the expansion, but said the other will not be formally revealed until Tokyo Fan Fest in October.

According to Polygon, fans have focused on a “Falconer” theory by combining confirmed details with clues shown or heard during the Berlin presentation. Square Enix has indicated that both Evercold jobs will be original to Final Fantasy 14 rather than returning roles from earlier Final Fantasy games, and that the unrevealed job will be a physical ranged DPS role. During a panel, composer Masayoshi Soken played two audio hints tied to the job: one with a clicking or ticking noise and another featuring a bird-like cry followed by slashing sounds.

Polygon notes that the Evercold trailer has further fueled the speculation. It shows a pink-haired Miqo’te interacting with a magical-looking instrument before an armored bird interrupts and triggers magic. Fans discussing the theory on Reddit have pointed to the character’s heavy leather gloves, which resemble gear used by bird handlers, and suggest the job could involve commanding a bird in combat, possibly with some resemblance to how Summoner uses companions.

The theory remains unconfirmed. Polygon emphasizes that Square Enix is expected to disclose the second job at Final Fantasy Fan Fest Tokyo, scheduled for Oct. 31-Nov. 1 at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo.
