Business Insider reported that the Federal Reserve left interest rates unchanged at its July FOMC meeting, marking the fifth hold of the year and the second decision under new Fed Chair Kevin Warsh. The decision was not portrayed as unanimous in tone: the outlet said three voting members favored a rate increase because inflation remains elevated, making this the first split vote of Warsh’s early tenure.

Warsh used his post-meeting appearance to emphasize that the central bank remains focused on returning inflation to its 2% goal, while arguing that price stability and a strong labor market are not necessarily competing objectives. Business Insider also reported that Warsh is moving away from heavy reliance on forward guidance and wants markets and businesses to respond more to real-time data.
