FDC calls for independent audit of govt agencies

What the report says
The Forum for Democratic Change has called for independent audits of government ministries, departments and agencies, saying outside scrutiny is needed to curb corruption and poor workmanship in public projects. According to Nile Post, the proposal was made by Kaps Fungaro, the party’s deputy president for Northern Uganda and shadow minister for security, during remarks at the FDC offices.
Fungaro said the audit teams should include people who are not tied to government structures and would be difficult to influence, suggesting that university students and other independent researchers could help monitor projects and report misuse of public funds. He argued that findings should be acted on quickly and that oversight should not be weakened by those under investigation.
He said corruption and shoddy implementation have affected many government entities and claimed that public resources are often lost before projects are completed properly. Fungaro also urged Parliament to give opposition leaders more powers and resources to oversee government programmes, and called for stronger roles for councillors and other local leaders in monitoring projects at the grassroots.
The FDC framed the issue as part of a broader accountability problem involving officials, politicians and contractors. More broadly, independent audits are a common anti-corruption tool in public administration, though the report did not say whether the government or Parliament had responded to the proposal.
