FAW boss renews call for Infantino to step down

What the report says
The Football Association of Wales has reiterated its opposition to Fifa president Gianni Infantino remaining in office, with chief executive Noel Mooney saying the organisation’s view has not changed. BBC Sport reported that Wales was the first national association to withdraw support for Infantino’s re-election, and Mooney said the FAW still believes he should step down.
The comments came after Infantino said over the weekend that he had the support of the “vast, vast majority” of world football and dismissed questions about whether he should resign over the controversy surrounding a proposed sale of stakes in Fifa competitions to private investors. That plan, known as the Fifa Forward Enterprise proposal, prompted criticism over governance and decision-making.
Infantino, who has led Fifa since 2016, has already apologised to the Fifa Council over the way the issue was communicated and consulted on. Uefa has also called for Fifa to release key documents and answer questions about the matter by 2 November.
Mooney told BBC Wales that the episode highlighted wider concerns about how global football is run, saying the sport needs stronger safeguards and less concentration of power in one role. His remarks place the Welsh stance within a broader debate over Fifa governance and accountability ahead of Infantino’s bid for another term.
