What the report says

Nile Post reports that a widely shared screenshot claiming all schools and educational institutions in Uganda would reopen for third term on 9 October 2026 is false. The article says the image was fabricated using generative AI and did not come from an authentic broadcast or official government notice.

According to the report, the false graphic was made to resemble a Ministry of Education and Sports press briefing and included an NBS TV-style headline. Nile Post says checks against the Ministry’s published 2026 school calendar show no change to the term dates. The calendar currently lists Term III for primary and secondary schools as starting on Monday, 14 September 2026 and ending on Friday, 4 December 2026, for 82 school days.

The fact-check also notes that Next Media, NBS TV’s parent company, has rejected the circulating graphic as fake. As described by the publisher, there was no official document on the Ministry’s school-calendar page, as of 2 September 2026, showing that the third-term reopening had been moved to 9 October.

The report matters because it highlights how AI-generated images can be used to spread false school-related announcements, especially when they imitate familiar media and government branding. Nile Post’s verdict is that the claim is false.
