F1 2026 Hungarian GP starting grid after penalties and pitlane start - The Race

What the report says
The Race reported the provisional starting grid for the 2026 Formula 1 Hungarian Grand Prix after post-qualifying penalties and a pit-lane start reshuffled the order. Lando Norris is listed on pole for McLaren, ahead of Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc and McLaren team-mate Oscar Piastri. Max Verstappen starts fourth for Red Bull, with Ferrari’s Lewis Hamilton fifth after a penalty.
According to the report, Hamilton had been quick through qualifying but was later found by stewards to have obstructed Piastri in Q3, resulting in a three-place grid drop. Mercedes driver Kimi Antonelli, described by The Race as the championship leader, also received a three-place penalty for not slowing sufficiently under yellow flags triggered by Verstappen spinning at the final corner in Q3. Antonelli is set to start seventh, behind Mercedes team-mate George Russell.
The published grid places Isack Hadjar eighth for Red Bull, Arvid Lindblad ninth for Racing Bulls and Nico Hulkenberg 10th for Audi. The midfield order continues with Liam Lawson, Pierre Gasly, Franco Colapinto, Gabriel Bortoleto, Esteban Ocon, Fernando Alonso, Ollie Bearman, Carlos Sainz, Alex Albon, Lance Stroll and Valtteri Bottas.
Sergio Perez, who The Race said qualified 22nd and slowest, is due to start from the pit lane after Cadillac broke parc ferme conditions to make changes to his car. The update matters because grid penalties at the Hungaroring can be especially significant, with overtaking often difficult on the tight, technical circuit.
