What the report says

The East African Development Bank has appointed Ugandan banker Anne Juuko as its new Director General, according to Nile Post. The Governing Council announced the decision at a meeting in Kampala, with the appointment set to take effect on October 2, 2026. The bank said the move fills its substantive top leadership role as it works to expand development financing and attract more long-term capital.

The Council Chairperson, Rwanda’s Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Yusuf Murangwa, praised Juuko’s regional banking experience and her background in capital markets and development finance. Juuko said she was honoured to join an institution that has operated for nearly six decades and said she intended to work with stakeholders across East Africa to strengthen the bank’s impact.

In her remarks, Juuko pointed to priorities such as deepening EADB’s development finance role, securing new sources of long-term funding and building strategic partnerships to widen the bank’s reach. The bank’s mandate includes supporting economic development and investment across the region.

Nile Post also outlined Juuko’s career history, including senior roles at Citibank Uganda and Citibank Kenya, Standard Bank Group and Stanbic Bank Uganda. She previously served as Stanbic Bank Uganda’s managing director and chief executive officer, and later as regional head of global markets for East Africa. The Governing Council thanked interim finance and treasury director Benard Mono for maintaining continuity during the transition.
