What the report says

Brazil midfielder Fabinho has signed a two-year contract with Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor, the team announced on Monday, according to Al Jazeera’s report based on AFP and Reuters. The move reunites the 32-year-old with former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah, who joined Trabzonspor earlier this month as a free agent. Trabzonspor also disclosed the financial terms in a stock exchange filing, saying Fabinho will receive a guaranteed annual fee and a separate signing fee each season.

Fabinho arrives in Turkey after spending 2023-24 with Saudi club Al-Ittihad, where he won the domestic league, following five seasons at Liverpool. At Liverpool, he made 219 appearances and was part of a side that won major honors including the Premier League, Champions League, FA Cup, League Cup, Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup. Al Jazeera reported that Fabinho described the chance to play alongside Salah again as a special feeling, while also stressing his intention to contribute leadership and experience.

The signing gives Trabzonspor another high-profile former Liverpool player as it prepares for the rest of its season. The club finished third in Turkey’s top division last year and is also involved in European competition, facing Ferencvaros in a Europa League playoff tie. The deal highlights how Turkish clubs continue to attract established international players, often on free transfers or short-term contracts, as they seek to strengthen squads quickly.
