Ex-Leicester striker Vardy joins Burnley

Former Leicester City and England striker Jamie Vardy has joined Burnley on a deal running until the end of the season, according to BBC Sport Football. The move brings the 39-year-old to the Championship side after he left Serie A club Cremonese in the summer, following a short spell in Italy after his long Leicester career.

BBC Sport said Vardy is Leicester’s record Premier League scorer with 145 goals and finished his time at the club with 200 goals in 500 appearances across all competitions. He won 26 England caps and scored seven international goals. Vardy, who turns 40 in January, spent 13 years at Leicester after arriving from non-league Fleetwood Town in 2012.

Burnley are bottom of the Championship and have not won in five matches under new manager Nicky Hayen. The club, relegated from the Premier League last season, has had a difficult start to the campaign, including a late home defeat by Bristol City at the weekend.

Vardy said Burnley’s history and support were part of the appeal, while Hayen described his experience and leadership as valuable additions. The signing gives Burnley a high-profile forward with a proven scoring record as they look to improve their season and move away from the bottom of the table.
