Everton sign defender Blundell on permament deal

BBC Sport reports that Everton have completed the permanent signing of defender Hannah Blundell after she spent last season on loan at the club from Manchester United. The 32-year-old was available on a free transfer after her United contract expired in June, and BBC Sport says Everton had been keen to bring her back to Merseyside.

Blundell made 10 appearances for Everton during her loan spell last term. She said the move was straightforward once she knew Scott Phelan would be continuing as manager, and described the club as a special place where she wants to build further memories with the squad. Phelan was confirmed as Everton’s permanent manager in June, while the club also recently agreed a one-year extension with captain Megan Finnigan.

The defender brings substantial Women’s Super League experience. According to BBC Sport, Blundell spent five years at Manchester United and played almost 100 times for the club. Earlier in her career, she came through Chelsea’s academy and was part of the first-team setup there for eight years before leaving in 2021. She has also earned three England caps.

BBC Sport notes that Blundell gave birth to her daughter in March 2025 and returned to football later that year. Her permanent arrival gives Everton an experienced defensive option as the club continues shaping its squad under Phelan ahead of the new campaign.
