Everton’s US owners seek sale of controlling stake in Premier League club

What the report says
Everton’s U.S.-based owners, The Friedkin Group, said they are open to selling a controlling stake in the Premier League club as they look to bring in new investment, Al Jazeera reported on Friday, citing the club’s statement. The move comes less than two years after Friedkin acquired Everton from Farhad Moshiri in December 2024, taking charge during a period of financial strain and instability.
According to the report, Friedkin said its initial focus was to stabilize the club, support its finances and help complete the move to the Hill Dickinson Stadium. The group said that foundation is now in place, and it believes the time has come to consider the club’s next phase. It also said it would only review offers from buyers it believes can continue the progress made since the takeover.
Friedkin said it would remain involved while the process unfolds and would continue backing the club on and off the pitch. The group has also retained investment bank Moelis & Company to advise on the sale process. Al Jazeera noted that the announcement follows a summer transfer window that drew criticism from some supporters, who were unhappy with limited squad additions after player sales. More broadly, the development is significant because it signals another ownership transition for a club that has faced years of financial and sporting uncertainty.
