Everton owners open to full club sale

What the report says
Everton’s owners, the Friedkin Group, are exploring options that could include selling a controlling stake in the Premier League club, according to a BBC Sport Football report published on 9 October 2026. The American group completed its takeover in 2024 in a deal reported to be worth more than £400m, and said it had spent its early ownership period focusing on stability, investment and finishing the club’s new stadium.
In a statement, the group said the club now has a stronger foundation and that this is the right time to consider “the next chapter.” It said it would only engage with potential buyers it believes would be suitable long-term stewards of Everton. The Friedkin Group is led by chairman Dan Friedkin, with day-to-day involvement handled by Rishi Majithia alongside chief executive Angus Kinnear, according to the BBC.
The development comes amid a season in which Everton were seventh in the Premier League after seven matches at the time of publication. BBC Sport also noted recent scrutiny over the club’s transfer activity and the level of communication between manager David Moyes and Friedkin. More broadly, a possible sale would mark a significant shift only months after the new ownership’s initial push to stabilise the club and support its move into the new stadium.
