EuroLeague calendar brings the new season into view

The Independent Uganda reported that EuroLeague has set the main framework for its 2026/27 basketball season, confirming a 20-club competition with opening games scheduled for 24 September 2026. The regular season will run over 38 rounds, with each team playing every other side at home and away. The report said the calendar gives clubs, media and fans a clearer basis for planning travel, coverage and viewing around the new campaign.

According to the report, the Board confirmed the participant list on 26 June. The field includes clubs from major European basketball markets such as Spain, Greece, Türkiye, Serbia, Italy, France, Germany and Lithuania. Paris Basketball remains among the teams, while Besiktas Istanbul is joining for the season. The earlier start date is also notable because the previous campaign began on 30 September 2025, leaving teams with a tighter runway from preseason into competitive fixtures.

The Independent Uganda noted that the format will place pressure on squad management, especially during double-round weeks and periods when teams must balance EuroLeague games with domestic league commitments. Travel demands, recovery time, injuries, suspensions and roster depth are likely to shape performances across the long regular season rather than only at the closing stage.

The postseason structure keeps the top six regular-season places especially important because those teams qualify directly for the playoffs. Clubs finishing seventh to 10th will enter the Play-In Showdown for the final two playoff berths, after which eight teams proceed to the playoff stage and then the Final Four. A detailed fixture list is still the next key step, as it will identify opponents, travel sequences and the busiest stretches of the calendar.
