Euro Gold Launches Gold Mining Project in Yumbe, Targets 20kg Weekly Output

What the report says
Euro Gold has launched a small-scale gold mining project in Yumbe District, in Uganda’s West Nile region, with an announced target of producing 20 kilogrammes of gold per week. According to Nile Post, the project is part of a broader government effort to formalise artisanal and small-scale mining, improve safety and traceability, and encourage local value addition.
The launch brought together government officials, mining industry stakeholders and community representatives. State Minister for Mineral Development Phiona Nyamutoro said Yumbe and nearby Zombo District have notable gold deposits and urged the company to operate legally, create jobs and training opportunities, and ensure host communities benefit. She also warned against illegal mining and said the government wants stronger safety, insurance and healthcare protections for miners.
Euro Gold chief executive Ben Feni said the company spent more than two years on geological surveys and exploration before securing the site. He said the firm’s operations cover about 79 square kilometres across West Nile, with Yumbe as the first active location, and that it plans to build a processing plant to improve accountability and add value to the mineral. The Uganda Association of Artisanal and Small-Scale Miners welcomed the move, while the Mineral Police Unit reiterated its crackdown on unlicensed mining and smuggling. The project matters because it reflects Uganda’s push to move mining activity into the formal economy and expand economic opportunities in the region.
