Eswatini Officials Awestruck by Kiira Motors Vehicle Plant

Nile Post reported that a senior delegation from the Kingdom of Eswatini visited the Kiira Vehicle Plant in Jinja and commended Uganda’s progress in vehicle manufacturing and electric mobility. The visitors toured the facility with Kiira Motors Corporation engineers and technical staff, who walked them through production stages including assembly, engineering, quality checks, testing and final inspection.

According to the report, Kiira Motors presented its bus line-up, including electric urban buses and coaches for longer-distance travel. Company officials said the plant currently has capacity to produce 2,500 vehicles a year, with plans to raise output to 10,000 units. They also described the Jinja facility as Africa’s largest bus manufacturing plant and said its vehicles are being developed for African transport needs while meeting international quality expectations.

The delegation was briefed on Kiira Motors’ broader electric mobility plans, including charging infrastructure, local battery-related development, smart mobility systems and after-sales support. Engineers also highlighted passenger features such as air conditioning, Wi-Fi, USB charging points, disability access and optional onboard restrooms for long-distance buses. Nile Post said the officials were also told about the Pearl-to-Cape Electric Expedition, in which a Kiira electric coach travelled more than 13,700 kilometres across Africa.

The visit ended with talks on possible cooperation between Kiira Motors and Eswatini. The engagement matters because it points to regional interest in Uganda’s industrialisation agenda and in locally designed transport technologies, particularly as African countries explore lower-emission public transport and domestic manufacturing capacity.
