Entebbe Mayor Rulinda Pays Tearful Tribute to King Oyo

Entebbe Municipality Mayor Fabrice B. Rulinda has paid an emotional tribute to the late Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, calling the monarch’s death a personal loss as well as a national tragedy. In the condolence message reported by Nile Post, Rulinda said he had shared a close bond with the king and was struggling to accept the news.

The Tooro Kingdom said the king’s death was confirmed at about 10:00pm on Thursday. The kingdom’s prime minister, Calvin Armstrong Rwomire Akiiki, described the loss as significant for the royal family, the people of Tooro and the wider country. Oyo was also known as Omukama Rukidi IV and Entale Ya Tooro, and he became king in 1995 at the age of three.

Rulinda’s tribute focused on the king’s childhood, public burden and character, praising his humility, dignity and Christian faith. He said Oyo had carried expectations from an early age while remaining approachable. The mayor also sent condolences to the Queen Mother, the royal family and the people of Tooro.

The report said Oyo’s death came weeks before the 31st anniversary of his coronation. More broadly, his long reign was notable in Uganda’s traditional leadership, and his passing marks the end of one of the country’s most recognizable cultural monarchies.
