Engola Cracks Down on Road Fund Misuse After Inspecting 112km Network in Erute South

Dokolo Post reports that Sam Engola, the Erute South MP and Minister for Relief, Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, has cautioned officials against diverting or misusing public money set aside for road works in Lira District. His warning came during a joint monitoring exercise with district leaders to assess projects under a UGX 1 billion road maintenance grant for the 2025/2026 financial year.

According to the report, the inspection covered completed, ongoing and planned works across Erute South. The routes included Amach Market–Abongomola Border, Amunamun–Alik Health Centre III, Kekere–Abutoadii, Awiodyek–Alworo, Amach Town Council–Adip, and a 0.6km low-cost sealed road in Amach Town Council said to have cost UGX 346 million. The team also reviewed Corner Munu–Corner Enyang, Barr Town Council–Apala Border, and the 15km Alworo–Corner Adek route via Awal Swamp to Akuli Town Council, described as a World Bank-funded project aimed at improving market access and agricultural productivity.

Dokolo Post says Engola stated that the latest tour brings to 112 kilometres the road network he has championed in the constituency. He linked better roads to easier access to markets, health services and schools, and urged district political and technical leaders to ensure public projects are delivered transparently and to standard.

The monitoring team also visited Onywako Health Centre II. Engola reportedly pledged to raise with Health Minister Dr. Chris Baryomunsi the possibility of upgrading the facility and adding a maternity ward, a move presented as important for maternal and child health services in the area.
