What the report says

England midfielder Jordan Henderson has joined Chelsea on a two-year contract after his agreement with Premier League rivals Brentford was ended by mutual consent, BBC Sport reported. The move brings the 36-year-old back to a club he first faced in his Premier League debut nearly 18 years ago, and adds another experienced option to Chelsea’s squad under manager Xabi Alonso.

Henderson arrives at Stamford Bridge with a long resume. He captained Liverpool to the Premier League title in 2019-20 and won several other major honours there, before later spells with Al-Ettifaq in Saudi Arabia, Ajax in the Netherlands and Brentford. According to BBC Sport, he made 32 top-flight appearances for Brentford in the 2025-26 season before the contract termination and switch to Chelsea.

In comments reported by the broadcaster, Henderson said the club’s scale, Alonso’s reputation and the squad’s quality made the move hard to refuse. He said he wants to contribute daily and help teammates on and off the pitch. The transfer is part of a busy summer for Chelsea, who finished 10th in the Premier League last season and missed out on European qualification. BBC Sport noted that Henderson is the 10th player to join the club this summer.
