Elvedi set for Leeds move as £8.5m fee agreed

Leeds United have agreed a deal worth £8.5m to sign Swiss defender Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach, according to BBC Sport Football. The 29-year-old is due to travel to England for a medical on Monday, with the German club said to have accepted an offer made up of an initial £6.8m plus a further £1.7m in add-ons.

Elvedi is expected to bring major experience to Daniel Farke’s squad. The defender has spent 11 years at Monchengladbach, making 364 appearances for the club, and has also built a strong international record with Switzerland, earning 73 caps and being part of their squad at this summer’s World Cup.

Farke suggested after Leeds’ pre-season win over Augsburg that the club expected developments within 48 hours, while noting that a transfer is only complete once medical checks and paperwork are finished. The reported arrival could also open the way for fringe defender Sebastiaan Bornauw to leave on loan to Hamburg, with an option to buy.

Leeds are preparing for their return to Premier League action, beginning the season away to Nottingham Forest next Saturday. If completed, Elvedi’s move would add depth and experience to a side looking to settle its squad before the campaign starts.
