What the report says

Former Watford owner and lifelong supporter Elton John has publicly expressed frustration at the club’s recent results after their 4-0 home defeat by Burnley, according to BBC Sport Football. The comments came in a now-deleted reply to a Watford Instagram post, where John said he was upset and disappointed by the team’s decline in recent weeks and said he felt for supporters having to watch the run of form.

BBC Sport reported that Watford are 20th in the Championship after losing three league matches in a row and five of their last six. The defeat to Burnley, who were 22nd at the time, left Watford in a difficult position early in the season. Burnley led 3-0 inside 25 minutes, highlighting the scale of Watford’s setback.

The article also noted that Watford appointed Alessio Dionisi as manager in June on a two-year deal. He is the club’s 12th head coach, excluding interim appointments, since the end of the 2020-21 season. Watford had made a promising start under Dionisi, but BBC Sport said results have since worsened, with only one win in their later league games. John, now 79, previously owned the club in two separate spells and remains closely associated with Watford through his long support and a stand named after him.
