Elon Musk says his Grok Imagine Al platform will make ‘historically accurate’ Odyssey adaptation by year-end - CNN

What the report says
CNN reported that Elon Musk said his xAI video-generation platform, Grok Imagine, will produce a feature-length adaptation of Homer’s “The Odyssey” before the end of the year. In a Wednesday post on X, Musk said the planned film would be “historically accurate” and faithful to Homer’s art, and he shared a three-minute Grok Imagine-generated clip depicting Odysseus and the nymph Calypso.
The post followed Musk’s reply to an X user who proposed that he spend $100 million backing a Mel Gibson-directed version with historically detailed ships, armor, weapons and casting, and dialogue drawn from the original poem in Homeric Greek. CNN reported that Musk responded, “I’m down.” The exchange came shortly after Christopher Nolan’s theatrical adaptation of the ancient Greek epic opened worldwide.
CNN also noted that Musk has repeatedly criticized Nolan’s version, particularly its casting choices, including posts attacking Nolan and amplifying criticism of Lupita Nyong’o being cast as Helen of Troy. Nolan’s film has nevertheless had a major commercial debut, earning more than $264 million globally on its opening weekend, according to Comscore Movies cited by CNN.
The development matters because it places Musk’s AI ambitions directly in the entertainment business, where studios, artists and technologists are already debating how generative AI should be used in filmmaking. Homer’s “Odyssey” is an ancient epic poem rather than a historical record, so Musk’s claim of a “historically accurate” AI adaptation may draw scrutiny over what accuracy means for a mythological work.
