Eight Arrested in Kasese After Woman is Found Dead

What the report says
Police in Kasese District have arrested eight people after the body of a 46-year-old woman was discovered at a farm in Rwehingo Village, Nyakatonzi Sub-county, according to Nile Post. The woman was identified as Topista Kyakimwa, a resident of the same area. Officers said her body was found on Tuesday morning in a pool of blood and showed visible bruises, leading to a homicide investigation.
The report says Kyakimwa was last seen on Monday evening, August 3, when she left home around 5 p.m. to buy food items from Rwehingo Trading Centre. Police later said she had been seen drinking at Grace Kabugho’s bar before she disappeared. Investigators visited and documented the scene and also used a police sniffer dog in efforts to trace those responsible.
Rwenzori East regional police spokesperson ASP Elly Maate said five men and three women were taken into custody to assist with inquiries. Police have not named a prime suspect and have not indicated a motive. The body was taken to Bwera Referral Hospital Mortuary for a postmortem as detectives continue collecting evidence.
The case adds to wider concern over violent deaths in rural communities, though police have only said their investigation is ongoing and are appealing for any useful information from the public.
