According to the BBC, Ederson’s initial medical plans were disrupted when he was called into Brazil’s World Cup squad late, following an injury to Wesley. Initial testing in the United States identified an area that required closer examination, and Ederson later travelled to England for additional assessments after Brazil were knocked out by Norway in the last 16. Specialists were involved before United decided not to proceed with the deal.

The report says there had been some belief the transfer could still be revisited later in the summer, potentially under revised terms. However, Atalanta have now confirmed Ederson has extended his stay, although the Italian club did not disclose the duration of the new contract.
