Eddie Mutwe, Achilleo Granted Bail But Release Yet

What the report says
A court has granted bail to four members of National Unity Platform leader Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu’s security team, but the ruling does not mean all of them will be released immediately. The group includes Eddie Mutwe, whose real name is Edward Ssebuufu, Achilleo Kivumbi, Gaddafi Mugumya and Grace Wakabi Smart. According to Nile Post, each was required to pay Shs5 million in cash.
The key point in the case is that Mutwe and Kivumbi remain in custody because they are also facing separate charges before Kawempe court. That means the latest bail order applies only to one of the matters involving the accused. Mugumya and Wakabi are expected to benefit from the ruling once the formalities are completed.
Nile Post said Mutwe has faced intense public attention since his arrest in Mukono District on April 27, 2025, after which he was held incommunicado for days before being taken to court. He is facing allegations linked to an incident at the May 2024 burial of businessman Pascal Ssekasamba in Lwengo District. Kivumbi, Mugumya and Wakabi were also charged in that matter. The accused have denied the allegations, and are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The article adds that the wider case has been closely watched because of repeated claims by NUP that some of its supporters were abducted and held by security agencies, and because earlier bail bids in related proceedings had already been rejected by the High Court and Kawempe court.
