Ecobank Returns as Headline Sponsor of Heart & Soul Blood Donation Drive

What the report says
Ecobank Uganda is returning as the headline sponsor of the Heart & Soul Rendezvous, a charity event focused on blood donation support through the Mengo Hospital Rotary Blood Bank, according to Nile Post. The second edition of the invite-only gathering is scheduled for November 14, 2026, at Premier Gardens in Kigo.
The event is designed to combine entertainment with a public health message. Organisers say guests will hear soul, jazz and R&B music while the drive raises awareness about voluntary blood donation, blood screening and storage. The accompanying programme is also expected to highlight people involved in the blood bank’s work, including regular donors.
Nile Post reported that the initiative comes against the backdrop of Uganda’s ongoing blood supply gap. It cited Uganda Blood Transfusion Services figures showing annual demand of about 450,000 units against collections of roughly 300,000, though the article also noted that some estimates place demand closer to 400,000 units. The shortage affects patients who need transfusions for emergencies, surgery, pregnancy-related complications, severe malaria, anaemia, cancer and sickle cell disease.
More broadly, the report places the sponsorship within a wider push to encourage voluntary, unpaid blood donation as a foundation for a safer and more reliable supply. The World Health Organization generally supports voluntary donation systems, and the Mengo Hospital Rotary Blood Bank relies on volunteers, medical staff and long-term donors to keep blood available for patients.
