EC Sets September 4 for National Women’s Committee Election

Uganda’s Electoral Commission has set September 3 and 4, 2026, for the final stage of the Women’s Councils election process, when delegates will choose the National Women’s Executive Committee in Kampala. Nile Post reports that 147 delegates will make up the electoral college, including 146 chairpersons of City and District Women’s Councils and one woman with disability nominated by the National Council for Persons with Disabilities.

According to the commission, the delegates will gather at Kyambogo College School in Nakawa Division on September 3 for accreditation and nomination of candidates. The process is scheduled to begin with accreditation at 10:00 a.m., followed by nominations for four leadership posts at 2:00 p.m. Those positions are chairperson, vice chairperson, publicity secretary and secretary for finance. Campaigning is set for the morning of September 4, with polling due to start at noon and voting to be conducted by secret ballot.

Electoral Commission chairperson Simon Byabakama Mugenyi said the vote will complete the structure of Women’s Councils and Committees from village level to national level. He urged delegates and candidates to follow the published timetable and procedures. The Kampala Capital City Returning Officer will oversee the national women’s election, and nomination forms are available at the office in Ministers Village, Ntinda. The announcement matters because it closes a long-running internal electoral programme for women’s representation within Uganda’s local council system.
