What the report says

The Electoral Commission has confirmed that nominations for the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election will take place on September 7 and 8, 2026, with polling set for September 17, according to Nile Post. EC public relations officer Julius Muchunguzi reaffirmed the schedule in response to a query, saying it remained in line with the Commission’s published roadmap.

The by-election is being held to fill the seat left vacant after the death of former Adjumani West MP and Second Deputy Prime Minister Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali on July 18, 2026. Candidates are expected to submit their nomination papers in accordance with the Commission’s rules and timetable.

The EC released the roadmap on August 3 during a stakeholders’ meeting at Adjumani District headquarters, chaired by EC Chairperson Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama. The meeting brought together officials, political leaders, security agencies, prospective candidates, civil society groups, religious leaders and media representatives to review preparations. The Commission said it aims to deliver a free, fair and credible vote.

Nile Post also noted that Adjumani West includes Adjumani Town Council, Pachara, Adropi, Ciforo and Ukusijoni sub-counties, with 114 polling stations in total. The confirmation of nomination dates means aspirants now have a final window to complete their paperwork ahead of polling.
