EC Begins Nomination of Adjumani West MP Aspirants

The Electoral Commission has started nominations for the Adjumani West parliamentary by-election, according to Nile Post, with independent aspirant Patrick Tandrupasi the first candidate cleared. He was nominated by Adjumani District Election Administrator and Returning Officer Akao Eunice Christine as the two-day exercise got underway.

Nile Post reports that Tandrupasi is seeking the seat for the third time. After his nomination, he told journalists that he sees himself as the strongest option for the constituency and said he wants to focus on improving livelihoods through commercial agriculture. He pointed to crops such as coffee and cocoa as part of a plan to raise household incomes and improve service delivery in Adjumani West.

The nomination period is scheduled for September 7 and 8, 2026, in line with the Electoral Commission’s roadmap, with polling set for September 17, 2026. The by-election follows the death of former MP and Second Deputy Prime Minister Gen. (Rtd.) Moses Ali on July 18, 2026. The Commission had earlier announced the roadmap on August 3 during a stakeholders’ meeting chaired by Justice Simon Mugenyi Byabakama.

Adjumani West Constituency includes Adjumani Town Council and the sub-counties of Pachara, Adropi, Ciforo and Ukusijoni. The area’s full political field is expected to become clearer as more aspirants are nominated before campaigning intensifies.
