Ebbsfleet suspension lifted by National League

Ebbsfleet United will begin their National League South season on Saturday after the league lifted the club’s suspension, BBC Sport Football reports. The Kent side had seen its first six league matches postponed while it dealt with financial problems that led HM Revenue and Customs to issue a winding-up petition over unpaid debts dating back to April.

The club’s position improved after a takeover last month by new owner John O’Leary, which enabled Ebbsfleet to pay HMRC and its players in full. Ebbsfleet said it had submitted evidence to the league showing funds were available to cover all liabilities and that HMRC had confirmed no money remained outstanding. The club thanked supporters for their patience and praised players and staff for handling the situation professionally.

A National League compliance and licensing committee met on Tuesday and decided the suspension could be removed immediately, allowing Ebbsfleet to face Walton & Hersham on Saturday. However, the club has been given a suspended six-point deduction, which could be activated if it fails to meet unspecified obligations. A transfer embargo also remains in place.
