East Ruwenzori Christians Bid Farewell to Archbishop Kaziimba, Celebrate His Legacy

What the report says
Christians in East Ruwenzori Diocese gathered at St Stephen’s Cathedral in Kamwenge District to farewell Archbishop of the Church of Uganda, Most Rev. Stephen Samuel Kaziimba Mugalu, as he approaches retirement from active service at the mandatory age of 65. The event, reported by Nile Post, drew hundreds of worshippers who used the occasion to recognize what they described as his strong leadership and lasting contribution to the Church.
During the service on Saturday, Kaziimba called on Christians to stay united and avoid tribalism and other divisions, saying such rifts can weaken both the Church and wider society. He also urged families to treat education as an important way to fight poverty and improve community life. His remarks focused on unity, social cohesion and long-term development through learning.
Diocesan leaders, led by Head of Laity Lay Canon Caleb Ahimbisibwe, praised Kaziimba for his service and said his tenure helped advance the Church of Uganda. They pointed to the completion of Church of Uganda House as one of the major achievements associated with his leadership. The farewell reflected both gratitude for his work and concern to carry forward the priorities he emphasized as the Church prepares for a transition in leadership.
