Earps eyes Man Utd reunion as WSL comeback nears

Mary Earps is preparing for a return to the Women’s Super League with London City Lionesses and says a possible debut against former club Manchester United would feel especially fitting. The goalkeeper, 33, is back in England after two seasons at Paris Saint-Germain and is set for London City’s season opener on Friday evening. BBC Sport reports that she described the prospect of meeting United as “meant to be,” reflecting her strong ties to the club where she spent five seasons.

Earps made more than 100 appearances for United, helped them win their first major trophy in 2024 and became England’s first-choice goalkeeper during a period that included Euro 2022 success and the run to the 2023 World Cup final. She also earned major individual recognition, including BBC Sports Personality of the Year in 2023. Her move to PSG had offered a chance to play abroad and step away from the intense spotlight in England, according to the report.

Now back in the WSL, Earps said she missed the atmosphere and energy of English football and is keen to help London City progress. The club have added several high-profile names this summer, including Earps, Alexia Putellas and Mapi Leon, as they look to establish themselves at the top level. Earps said she is still competing for the starting place and wants to contribute to the team’s long-term success.
