What the report says

The Philadelphia Inquirer reported that the Eagles opened 2026 training camp Wednesday at the Jefferson Health Training Complex with what appeared to be an unusually healthy roster. The main exception was outside linebacker Jonathan Greenard, who was placed on the Physically Unable to Perform list after apparently straining a pectoral muscle while lifting before camp. The report said the injury is not expected to be long term. Several players limited in spring work, including linebacker Jihaad Campbell and receiver Makai Lemon, were back practicing.

A major focus of the first session was new offensive coordinator Sean Mannion’s system. According to the Inquirer, the Eagles used frequent under-center looks, motion, play-action concepts and elements associated with the Shanahan-McVay coaching tree. Jalen Hurts had some uneven early moments, including a near interception, but later connected on stronger throws to Dontayvion Wicks, DeVonta Smith and Darius Cooper. The article noted that Hurts and the offense may need time to adjust after a spring that was not especially sharp in practices open to reporters.

The report also highlighted several roster and role questions. Cooper DeJean continued to work at safety in base personnel, while Marcus Epps appeared to have an early edge in the nickel role, with Michael Carter II also involved. At receiver, DeVonta Smith is positioned as the top option after A.J. Brown’s trade to New England, while Wicks, Hollywood Brown, Lemon, Cooper and Johnny Wilson are among those competing for snaps.

On defense, Jalyx Hunt benefited from Greenard’s absence by working with the starters opposite Nolan Smith Jr. The Inquirer described Hunt as disruptive, including pressure off the edge and wins against Jordan Mailata. The first practice also included typical early-camp miscues, including false starts, a botched handoff and dropped passes.
