DTB Uganda Launches Mortgage Finance Solution to Expand Affordable Home Ownership

What the report says
Watchdog Uganda reported that Diamond Trust Bank (DTB) Uganda has launched a Mortgage Finance solution aimed at widening access to home ownership and supporting investment in residential real estate. The product was unveiled in July 2026 at Emerald Residency in Mutungo, Nakawa-Kampala, under a theme focused on structured mortgage capital, institutional real estate investment and corporate home ownership.
According to the report, the initiative is designed to provide long-term financing to property developers building residential housing, while also offering tailored mortgage arrangements for individuals and employees through corporate schemes. DTB Uganda says the approach is intended to reduce the risk of stalled housing projects, increase the supply of quality homes and help more Ugandans use property ownership as a route to long-term financial security.
The bank’s Managing Director, Godfrey Ssebaana, said the product reflects DTB’s view that housing is central to financial stability and wealth creation. The launch was also attended by Lands, Housing and Urban Development Minister Judith Nabakooba, who welcomed the initiative as aligned with government efforts to expand affordable housing and home ownership through cooperation between the public sector, lenders and private developers.
Watchdog Uganda cited a national housing shortfall of more than 2.4 million units, with yearly demand estimated at 210,000 to 300,000 homes and projected to rise sharply by 2030. The report noted that mortgage access remains constrained by high borrowing costs, short repayment periods and limited long-term capital, leaving many households to build gradually over years. PML Daily also carried coverage of the launch.
