Driver Nsamba remanded over Moses Matovu’s murder

Vincent Arnold Nsamba, identified by The Observer as the prime suspect in the killing of Afrigo Band founder and music icon Moses Matovu, was remanded to Luzira Upper Prison until November 3, 2026. Nsamba, 47, also known as Sitenda, is described in the report as a driver and resident of Agip Zone in Kibuli. He appeared before Makindye chief magistrate Idah Nanjala on Monday afternoon.

According to the prosecution, led by state attorney Jamaima Akingo, Nsamba is accused of causing Matovu’s death on September 24, 2026, at Market B Zone in Kibuli Parish, Makindye Division, Kampala. Court was told that investigations were still ongoing. Nanjala informed Nsamba that the magistrate’s court cannot hear murder cases, advised him of his right to apply for bail in the High Court, and said he could be provided an advocate when the case proceeds.

The report says Nsamba appeared calm in court and had an injured left arm. He was brought to court with Rose Tusiime, who is described as being central to the investigation, though she was not charged. The Observer also noted that Matovu died after an early-morning confrontation in Kibuli and was later buried at his family’s ancestral grounds in Kyanja. As background, murder cases in Uganda are typically handled through the High Court after initial committal steps in the magistrates’ court.
