Dr Bbosa Marks 41 Years in Theatre with New Book and Foundation

Veteran Ugandan actor and comedian Sam Bagenda, widely known as Dr Bbosa, is marking 41 years in theatre with the release of a new book and plans for a foundation to support young talent, according to Nile Post. The report says he is using the milestone to reflect on a long career in performance and to create a pathway for emerging artists, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

Bagenda visited Bulange Mengo with a group of artists, where they paid a courtesy call on Katikkiro Charles Peter Mayiga and sought support for his contribution to Uganda’s theatre industry. Nile Post reports that Mayiga praised Dr Bbosa’s resilience and encouraged people to value their professions and continue serving their communities. Robert Sserwanga Ssaalongo, the Minister of the Kabaka in charge of artists, also commended him for using his talent to improve his life and serve as an example to others.

The new book, titled Dr Bbosa’s 5Ps, is based on five principles he says have guided his career: prayer, persistence, positivity, patience and passion. He said he wants younger people to learn from the lessons that helped him stay relevant over time. He also announced a Thanksgiving Bonanza planned for August 29, 2026, at Theatre Labonita, where he expects to launch the Dr Bbosa’s Foundation.

The foundation is intended to nurture young people with talent and help develop their careers. As background, Bagenda is one of Uganda’s best-known theatre and television figures, and his association with The Ebonies and That’s Life Mwattu helped make him a familiar name across the country.
