Leader of the Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi convened opposition MPs in Entebbe on Thursday for a two-day induction retreat aimed at setting priorities for Uganda’s 12th Parliament. According to Watchdog Uganda, the meeting brought together new and experienced lawmakers to align their work on oversight, legislation and public representation during the 2026–2031 term.

The roadmap discussed at the retreat focuses on strengthening accountability, tackling corruption, defending the rule of law and improving public services. It also includes efforts to develop policy alternatives on the cost of living and rising public debt, issues that remain central to opposition messaging in Parliament. The article said members from the Democratic Party, National Unity Platform and among independents were present, suggesting a show of cross-party coordination within the opposition bloc.

The gathering also surfaced internal questions about how opposition resources are managed. Bukoto Central MP Richard Sebamala and Lubowa Ssebina Gyaviira asked for clarification on budget allocation and use of funds for committee and oversight work. The report said those questions were not answered publicly during the session, though participants described them as part of routine internal scrutiny.

Ssenyonyi told the MPs that party differences should not undermine parliamentary performance, framing the retreat as preparation for tougher debates and executive oversight ahead. The Entebbe sessions were expected to continue with technical training on Friday.
