Don Chris charged with 127 counts over alleged overseas jobs scam

Christian Asiimwe, better known as Don Chris, has been remanded to Luzira Prison after denying 127 counts of obtaining money by false pretences in a case linked to an alleged overseas jobs recruitment scheme, according to Sqoop Uganda. He appeared at City Hall Court before Senior Principal Magistrate Grade One Nicholas Aisu on Tuesday and was not represented by a lawyer.

Prosecutors told court that investigations were complete and asked for a hearing date. The magistrate instead remanded Asiimwe until September 21, when he is expected back in court. The proceedings drew a large crowd of people believed to be complainants, while Asiimwe reportedly remained calm as the charges were read.

Sqoop Uganda reported that the charges arise from seven charge sheets alleging that, between 2023 and 2025, Asiimwe and others still at large collected money from job seekers through Sky Pins Tours and Travel Company offices in Ntinda, Nakawa Division. The alleged destinations included Canada, Luxembourg, Europe, the United States, the Netherlands and Turkey, with individual payments said to range from Shs1 million to Shs10 million.

The case follows earlier police claims that more than 500 people may have been affected, with alleged victims reportedly seeking work abroad and paying different fees depending on the destination. Asiimwe was arrested on August 27, 2026, in Zana, Wakiso District. He remains presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
