Dokta Brain gets seat in music’s main league

What the report says
The Observer reported that songwriter Dokta Brain used his Saturday concert, The Doorkey Experience, to showcase the breadth of his work and the artistes who have performed his songs. The event opened with an orchestra playing some of the tracks he has written for others, including songs linked to Sheebah Karungi, Rema, Vinka, Tracy Melon, Rickman Manrick and Pretty Banks. The night also featured live appearances from several performers associated with his catalogue, among them Mimi Kampala, Shena Skies, Pawa Boy, Emma Frost, Chozen Blood, the Benti Boys twins, Winnie Nwagi and John Blaq.
According to the report, Dokta Brain came on stage later in the evening and performed a set that included his own songs such as Ready Gun, Tobuzanga Empeeta, Ndi Muntu Buntu, Go Go Mama, Tondwisa and Bikyaganye. The article said he dedicated Ready Gun to his brother and that Go Go Mama, featuring Rema Namakula, drew a strong response from the audience even though she was not on stage.
The concert also included a tribute to the late Moses Matovu of Afrigo Band, who had died two days earlier, with the orchestra joining Dokta Brain for that segment. The Observer framed the event as evidence of Dokta Brain’s growing standing among Ugandan songwriters, placing him alongside established hitmakers who have built reputations both writing for others and performing their own material.
