Dokolo Launches Shs122M Road Rehabilitation Project

Dokolo District Local Government has started a road rehabilitation programme covering 25.2 kilometres of district roads, with the work valued at Shs122 million, according to Dokolo Post. The launch took place on Thursday, August 27, 2026, and officials said the project is meant to improve transport links, market access and access to basic services in the district.

The reported works are part of a larger Shs1 billion government road rehabilitation allocation for Dokolo in the 2025/2026 financial year. The roads named for improvement include Bata-Otuboi Road, Iguli-Oringoapala-Adak-Abat Road and Hassa Memorial-Odeo Primary School Road. The planned tasks include bush clearing, grading, filling low spots, spot gravelling, repairing damaged sections and installing culverts where needed.

District engineering and political leaders used the launch to urge residents and local leaders to protect the roads and monitor the work. Assistant District Engineer Geoffrey Opori said the limited funding could affect how much of the original plan is completed, while promising the team would try to deliver quality work with the available resources.

Resident District Commissioner Babra Akech and other officials linked better roads to broader government programmes such as the Parish Development Model and Emyooga, saying reliable transport is needed for people to move goods and reach markets. Their comments reflected a wider local concern in rural Uganda: road access often influences school attendance, health access and household incomes, so maintenance projects can have effects beyond transport alone.
