Dokolo Flags Off Over 80 Pupils for National Competitions

Dokolo District Local Government has sent off more than 80 pupils to compete in Uganda’s national Music, Dance and Drama (MDD) and Ball Games events, with the teams heading to Iganga and Mubende districts. According to Dokolo Post, the flag-off took place on Sunday, August 23, 2026, ahead of competitions scheduled from August 24 to September 4.

The delegation includes 60 pupils from Iguli Primary School in Amwoma Sub-county, who earned their place after regional MDD competitions in Boroboro, Lira City, held from August 14 to 16. A further 25 pupils will represent Dokolo in the national Ball Games competition in Mubende. District officials described the selection as evidence of growing participation in school sports and co-curricular activities.

During the ceremony, Sports Officer Godfrey Ojungo thanked parents, teachers, political leaders and other supporters for helping the pupils reach the national stage. District Inspector of Schools Erechu Lameck Tonny encouraged the learners to stay disciplined and focused, while also pointing to broader ambitions to develop young talent. He referenced earlier participation by a Dokolo pupil in Morogoro, Tanzania, as an example of the district’s expanding sporting profile.

Secretary for Education, Health and Community-Based Services Joel Opota Okuma urged the pupils to work hard and remain disciplined, and he also called on parents to keep children in school so they can discover their talents. The district said it will continue supporting education and co-curricular programs as it hopes the pupils return with medals and awards.
