What the report says

Wakiso District Local Government reports that district leaders are pressing for more central government funding to improve the area’s road network, especially by upgrading murram roads to gravel standard. The appeal was made by District Chairman Eng. Ian Kyeyune during an inspection of two roads in Namayumba Sub-county: the 7-kilometre Kyasa–Mpata Road and the 14.5-kilometre Mikka–Buwembo–Kitayita Road.

According to the district, Kyeyune said the local government remains committed to making roads more durable and keeping them accessible for communities. He instructed the technical team to correct road reserve width issues, strengthen compaction and drainage, and fix damaged culverts using the funds available. The statement also said he plans to raise the matter with the relevant minister to seek additional support, arguing that Wakiso’s role as a major transport corridor makes road investment especially important.

The district’s Works, Production and Technical Services Secretary, Hon. Moses Mubiru Balwana, said reliable roads are key to linking residents with markets, health centres and other services. Residents who observed the works were quoted as welcoming the projects and hoping better roads will improve travel, access to services and livelihoods. More broadly, the update reflects a common local government challenge in Uganda: maintaining existing roads while trying to upgrade them with limited resources.
