Deputy Mufti pays tribute to late King Oyo

Deputy Mufti of Uganda Sheikh Muhammad Ali Waiswa has joined other religious and cultural leaders in mourning the death of Tooro King Oyo Nyimba Kabamba Iguru Rukidi IV, saying his passing at 34 is a major loss for the kingdom and the country. According to Nile Post, Waiswa represented Mufti Sheikh Shaban Ramadhan Mubaje during a condolence visit to the monarch’s residence in Buziga, Kampala, where he signed a condolence book and met Tooro Kingdom officials, including Prime Minister Omuhikirwa Calvin Armstrong Rwomiire Akiiki.

In the message delivered on behalf of the Mufti and Uganda’s Muslim community, Waiswa urged the bereaved family to accept God’s will and described the death as especially painful because of the king’s young age. The statement also highlighted the late king’s long role in Tooro affairs, noting that he ascended the throne as a child in 1995 and was associated with efforts to protect the kingdom’s cultural heritage and promote unity.

The tribute also referred to King Oyo’s public work on issues such as HIV/AIDS awareness, environmental conservation, sport and youth empowerment. Nile Post reported that the kingdom thanked the Muslim leadership for the condolence visit and said it would continue to update the public on burial arrangements as final preparations proceed.
