Deaf Link Uganda executive director shot dead in Kisoro lodge attack

What the report says
The Observer reports that Barbra Nassozi Kiyaga, the founding executive director of Deaf Link Uganda, was shot dead during a gun attack on Mucha Lodge in Kisoro district. The incident also left a police officer injured. Kiyaga, who was said to be 58 and a resident of Kampala, had checked into the lodge the day before and was killed around 2 a.m. on Thursday when unidentified gunmen attacked the property along the Mutorere-Nyundo road near River Mucha.
According to police spokesperson Nelson Tumushime, the attackers are suspected of trying to rob the lodge and may have targeted guests. Security personnel at the facility responded to the attack, and a shootout followed. Tumushime said Police Constable Charles Mukesi, who was guarding the premises, was wounded in the left leg and taken to Kisoro Hospital, where he was reported to be in stable condition. Kiyaga died at the scene, and her body was moved to the mortuary for postmortem examination.
Police said they had launched a search for the attackers and increased security in the area. Residents and visitors were urged to stay calm and share any information that could help identify the suspects. The report said the killing has heightened concern in Kisoro, a tourism region near lakes, national parks and gorilla-tracking routes, and comes after other recent violent attacks in the district. Police have not said whether the incidents are linked.
