What the report says

Hugh Jackman said he is interested in buying a stake in Norwich City, according to Al Jazeera’s report based on an interview broadcast on Thursday and published Sept. 3, 2026. Jackman, who has long supported the club because of his mother’s ties to Norwich, told TalkSport he was open to discussing an investment while promoting his film "The Death of Robin Hood."

The actor’s comments raise the possibility of a new celebrity link to English football, following fellow Australian actor Ryan Reynolds’s well-known investment in Wrexham with Rob McElhenney in 2021. Norwich and Wrexham now compete in the Championship, England’s second division, creating a potential future rivalry between the two clubs if Jackman were to join Norwich in some ownership role.

Al Jazeera reported that Norwich is majority-owned by Mark Attanasio, the principal owner of the Milwaukee Brewers. The club is aiming to push for promotion back to the Premier League, and Jackman praised its progress under Belgian coach Philippe Clement, who arrived in November. Norwich, nicknamed the Canaries, has a long history in English football and last played in the Premier League four years ago. This matters because celebrity ownership has become a growing theme in the sport, especially after Wrexham’s global profile rose under Reynolds and McElhenney.
